Bakirkoy to Istanbul Expo Center: Fair Morning Plan

A solid plan for a fair morning is to get the opening time from the organizer and leave Bakırköy at least an hour before it. The trip by Marmaray, walking included, takes about 30–40 minutes, and that buffer is usually enough for registration and checks at the entrance; if you are going by taxi, allow for morning traffic even though the drive itself is 15–25 minutes.

Opening times vary from fair to fair; use the plan below and count backwards from your own fair's start time.

The night before

Save the organizer's badge, invitation or registration details on your phone and, if possible, on paper.
Have your Istanbulkart ready; it works on Marmaray and the metro.
Put business cards, catalogues and a charger in one bag.
If you are travelling as a team, agree a meeting time and place, for example the station entrance.

Morning order

Wake-up: leave yourself enough time for breakfast and getting ready without rushing.
Setting off: leave the address at least an hour before the opening.
Station: make sure you take the Halkalı direction on the platform; the Gebze direction takes you away from the venue.
Arrival: get off at Yeşilköy and walk to the fair entrance; leave a buffer for registration and the security check.

The first fair morning is usually the least certain one: you are seeing the station, the platform and the entrance for the first time. So keep a slightly wider buffer on day one. From the second day you know the way, and you can adjust the timing to your own experience.

Travelling as a team

If several of you are going, tying the morning to a single meeting time keeps the group together. Choose the front of the building or the entrance of Marmaray Bakırköy station as the meeting point. If stand staff have to be at the stand before the opening, send them in the first group; managers coming as visitors can take a later train. If one person is carrying equipment, having them take a taxi while the others take Marmaray balances both time and energy. Where to have breakfast

Every apartment has a kitchen, so putting together a quick breakfast yourself saves time in the morning. If you would rather eat out, there are cafés and restaurants around Bakırköy Freedom Square (Özgürlük Meydanı) and İstanbul Caddesi; the square is a 6-minute walk from our address. Food options at the venue vary by event.

If you are taking a taxi

The drive takes about 15–25 minutes, but it can stretch in morning traffic. Do not leave the taxi to the last minute, and add a buffer to the opening time. Taxis in Istanbul run on the meter. On mornings when you are carrying a box of samples or catalogues, a taxi is easier; the building has a lift, so getting boxes down to the door is simple too. When you give the driver the name of the expo centre, also say which entrance your event uses.

Keep this in your bag all day

A fair day is busy; packing what you need for the day in the morning is the most practical approach: badge, business cards, charger, water and a light layer for the evening. That way you can give the whole day to the stand and to meetings.

If Marmaray is disrupted

The backup plan is the M1A metro: walk to İncirli (about 18 minutes), take the train from Bakırköy-İncirli station towards Atatürk Havalimanı and get off at DTM-İstanbul Fuar Merkezi. If you are going to the fair on checkout day

Checkout is by 11:00. If on your last day you are both leaving the apartment and going to the fair, ask in advance about a late checkout or what can be done with your belongings; late checkout depends on availability.
